TRS Calculators

TRS Calculators

ALL TRS CALCULATORS PRODUCE ESTIMATES THAT ARE NOT BINDING ON TRS. THE RESULTS ARE SUBJECT TO AUDIT, ADJUSTMENT, AND CORRECTION.

Withholding Calculator (Generic) – This calculator is for estimating the federal income tax to be withheld from your annuity. You can enter your gross annuity, select your marital status, and enter the number of exemptions and other deductions you’d like used in calculating your withholding. This calculator does not require a User ID or password.

Note: To use the remaining calculators on this page, you will need to log in with a MyTRS User ID and password to use them.

Withholding Calculator (inside MyTRS) – After you log in and select to use this withholding calculator, it will automatically import the current annuity and withholding elections from your TRS account. You can modify your marital status, the number of exemptions, and other deductions to estimate changes in your withholding.

Retirement Estimate Calculators – Once you log in to MyTRS and select to use the retirement estimate calculator, it will automatically import current data from your TRS membership account such as your tier, years of service credit, highest salaries, etc. You can change that data if you want to explore different scenarios.

Unreported/Substitute Service and Calculator – Unreported service is service that is eligible to be reported to TRS but that was not reported to TRS at the time the service was rendered. It may also include substitute service and unreported compensation. Once you log into MyTRS and select to use the Unreported Service Calculator, it will automatically import current data from your TRS membership account, such as your tier and years of service credit. It will provide you the cost to purchase the additional year(s) of Unreported Service credit.

You may also calculate the cost of Unreported Service when you are using the Retirement Calculator. Similar to the calculation of the Sick Leave cost, checking the box labeled “Unreported Service” will allow the calculator to show you the cost to purchase the additional year(s) of Unreported Service credit. In addition, your retirement estimate will include the year(s) of service credit.

State Sick/Personal Leave and Calculator – If on your last day of employment before retirement you have credit for 50 days or more, or 400 hours or more of accumulated state sick and /or personal leave, you may be eligible to purchase one year of service credit. Once you log in to MyTRS and select to use the Retirement Estimate Calculator you will also be able to use the sick leave calculator. Checking the box labeled "sick leave" will allow the calculator to show you the cost to purchase the additional year of service credit. In addition, your retirement estimate will include the additional year of service credit.
